Abbas: 'I Don't Have To Recognize Israel As A Jewish State'

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said that he would not recognize Israel as a Jewish state in an interview with east Jerusalem newspaper Al-Quds.

When asked about Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's demand that the PA recognize Israel as a Jewish state, Abbas said "Israel can call itself whatever it wants. We don't have to recognize those definitions."

"There is no doubt that we and the Israelis differ on many issues since the start of negotiations. There are fundamental differences on many issues," Abbas said, "but we must sit at the negotiations table to clarify the positions."

U.S. To Give Lebanon 700 Million For Army Despite Fatal Israel Border Clash

The U.S. administration will continue to provide funding to the Lebanese army, despite recent calls to halt promised U.S. aid in the wake of a deadly assault on Israeli soldiers at the Israel-Lebanon border last month, the Lebanese daily An-Nahar reported Saturday.

On Saturday, An-Nahar reported that Washington intended to continue its military support of the Lebanese Armed Forces, saying the United States was due to move ahead with a planned $700 million armament scheme.

The report stated that the reason for the decision to provide Beirut with the promised funds was the LAF's success in recent years in stabilizing the turbulent country, as well as its conduct, which U.S. sources feel was conducive to the current relative calm.

UN Nuke Agency Says Monitoring Of Iran Is Being Hampered

The U.N. atomic agency says its monitoring of Iran's nuclear activities is being hampered because Tehran objects to giving some agency inspectors access to its program.

The unusual warning is contained in a restricted report on Iran made available to The Associated Press. It follows Iran's recent decision to strip two experienced inspectors of the right to monitor Tehran's nuclear activities after they reported undeclared nuclear experiments conducted by Tehran.

Iran Says They Have The Right To Bar UN Nuclear Inspectors

Teheran has the right to bar some UN inspectors from monitoring its disputed nuclear program, Iran's nuclear chief Ali Akbar Salehi said late Monday.

The comments came in response to an unusually blunt warning by the International Atomic Energy Agency which expressed alarm about Iran's decision to bar some of its inspectors. The report followed Iran's recent decision to strip two inspectors of the right to monitor its nuclear activities after they reported what they said were undeclared nuclear experiments.

Nuclear Agency: Iran Defies UN, Possesses 2.8 Tons Of Uranium

Iran continues to snub the United Nations and has produced 2.8 tons of enriched uranium, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported Monday. Iran previously enriched uranium to a five percent grade, but increased the purification level to nearly 20 percent last February.

CNN and the French news agency AFP said they obtained the confidential IAEA report, which reputedly stated, "Based on an overall analysis undertaken by the agency of all the information available to it, the agency remains concerned about the possible existence in Iran of past or current undisclosed nuclear-related activities involving military-related organizations, including activities related to the development of a nuclear payload for a missile.”

UN Calls Special Meeting To Address Food Shortages Amid Predictions Of Riots

Last week, the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) called an emergency meeting for 24 September to discuss the food crisis. In Mozambique, riots broke out following the government's decision to raise bread prices by 30%, leaving seven people dead and hundreds injured. At the same time the Russian government extended its export ban on wheat by another 12 months as it battles drought, shortages and inflation at home, which threatens to push up prices further.

European wheat prices hit more than €231 (£192) a ton last week, just below last month's two-year high of €236 but still 60% higher than a year ago in sterling terms. Corn prices are at their highest level since June 2009 while sugar has been on a rollercoaster ride after hitting a 29-year peak in February.

The FAO's index of meat prices in August climbed to its highest level since it started compiling the index in 1990, up 16% over the past year.

And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed. And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter. German Cabinet Approves Disputed ID Cards

The new ID card is the result of a compromise between conservative Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaueble, who was pushing for compulsory digital fingerprints that he said would boost security, and data-privacy proponents who argued it would erode privacy rights.

However, members of the opposition Green party and the Left Party said the new identification card still posed grave risks and did not bring added security.

"The digital fingerprint should only be used for official police investigations and not in identification cards," Stokar said.

Brussels Plans 'Treasury' For The Revived Roman Empire / EU

Yves Leterme, the Belgian prime minister and current holder of the rotating EU presidency, plans to propose a new machinery to prevent a repeat of Europe's sovereign bond crisis. "This should evolve into a European debt agency able to issue debt for all member states. Everybody will gain from the mechanism," he said at the annual Ambrosetti conference of global policymakers at Lake Como, Italy. The idea would be the next logical step beyond the eurozone's €440bn bail-out fund agreed in May.

"This will be a very effective tool to harmonize budget policies, but the way ahead may be very tough," he said. Germany is likely to balk at talk of an EU debt union, or "Transferunion" as it is described in Gothic terms by Germany's tabloid press.

Jean-Claude Trichet, the head of the European Central Bank, called for a "quantum leap in terms of surveillance" to ensure that the financial crisis is never repeated. Mr. Trichet said it would be extremely difficult to change the Lisbon treaty in the current climate but called on EU leaders to "exploit all possibilities" in the sub-clauses of existing legislation to advance policing tools.

The EU institutions agreed last week on the creation of three super-regulators covering banking, markets, and insurance, each with powers to impose decisions by majority vote. Mr. Trichet said there should be a second surveillance mechanism to cover broader imbalances and the gaps in unit labor costs that lie behind the North-South divide. "We cannot go on as present," he said.

Peace Talks To Continue In Egypt On September 14th, Then In JERUSALEM On The 15th

Israeli and Palestinian leaders plan talks with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton in Jerusalem this month. The setting is a symbolic move to show the seriousness of peace negotiations.

U.S. officials said Sunday that Clinton would join Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Jerusalem on September 15. The exact location wasn't immediately clear.

Wow! … are they serious about this location? … Right in the midst of the "heavy stone!" If they are, someone must be crazy or this is being orchestrated intentionally for a desired outcome. In my mind this is like juggling glass vials of nitroglycerin while an earthquake is shaking the earth. What if these talks totally collapse on Wednesday the 15th right there in the midst of Jerusalem? Could this be the catalyst to bring forth the Man of Sin “out of the closet” to scatter the settlers out of Judea?  Will Javier Solana even be in attendence for those talks? If so, will we hear news confirming this ahead of time? From scripture, we know that Jerusalem will be the "stage", now its just a matter of when. As always, I of course don’t know, so we will all need to continue watching and to see what does, or doesn’t happen.

Ahmadinejad: Any Attack On Iran Will Lead To The 'Eradication' Of Israel

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad  ruled out an attack on the Islamic republic over its nuclear program, during a visit to Qatar on Sunday, because any such action would result in Israel's destruction.

"Any act against Iran will lead to the eradication of the Zionist entity," he told a joint news conference in Doha with Qatar's emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, after their talks.

"The Zionist entity and the US government would hit any country in the region whenever they are able to do so, and they will not wait to get permission. But (at the moment) they cannot," he said.

"Iran has the ability to retaliate, strong and hard," warned Ahmadinejad, whose comments in Farsi were translated into Arabic.

Egyptian TV: 'Islam Will Conquer Italy and the Entire West'

MEMRI (Middle East Media Research Institute) has released a transcript of excerpts from a televised sermon given by Egyptian cleric Salem Abu Al-Futuh. Airing on Al-Nas TV on August 18, it features Al-Futuh’s confident predictions that Islam will take over the entire West, beginning specifically with Italy and ending with North and South America.

The transcript of Salem Abu Al-Futuh’s talk:

The nation of Islam will return – despite our current crisis and despite the arrogance of the West. The West is bound to be destroyed. Just like Allah destroyed the Byzantine and Persian empires, he will destroy the West at the hands of the Muslims. This is an unequivocal promise. These countries will convert to Islam. Islam will reach these countries.

Iran's Revenge: Syria And Hizballah Will Join Forces In An Attempt To Sink Israeli Warships & Subs

Syrian President Bashar Assad and Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah decided to expand the secret military cooperation pact they recently concluded - to which no Israeli political or military leader has so far responded - to the Mediterranean Sea, where their operational and intelligence assets will together seek out and try and sink Israeli missile ships and submarines.

To this end, they have earmarked marine units and their Iranian- and Russian-made shore-to-ship missile force - the largest of its kind in the world - as well as Syrian assault helicopters flown by crews trained to strike seaborne targets. The Hizballah marine unit was trained and equipped by Iranian Revolutionary Guards marine instructors.

The Mediterranean coastal strip from Syrian Latakia in the north, running through the Lebanese ports of Tripoli, Sidon and Tyre and down south to the Gaza Strip, have been declared a joint sea front dedicated to attacking Israeli targets.

We will have to watch and see who shows up to referee, or moderate all of these various talks scheduled in the very near future. Solana’s work may have been already completed on this front. It’s his plan that is being propagated by all of the players fulfilling their roles. Are they allowing him to remain concealed until it’s time for him to be revealed? This is what scripture tends to indicate. Will a certain conflict occur in the Middle East and at that time will the archangel Michael be told by God to “step aside”?

And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 2Thessalonians 2:6-9 (KJV)

Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. 2Thessalonians 2:4 (KJV)

As you can tell, I love to hate this picture. His expression is so “telling”. Surely this picture is worth more than a thousand words. - Scott

Germany Rethinks Organ Donation: Presume Consent Rather Than Ask For It

When German opposition leader Frank-Walter Steinmeier donated his kidney to his sick wife last week, he put organ donation in the spotlight. But most transplants don't come from living donors like Steinmeier, but rather from people who have died but whose organs are still in good shape.

In an interview with the Welt am Sonntag newspaper, Rolf Koschorrek, who heads the Christian Democrats' parliamentary health committee, said he was ready to fight for a system that presumed consent rather than asked for it. He told the paper that he sees the "opting out" model as "an opportunity to significantly improve the supply of donor organs."

Series Of Miracles By God Saves Life Of Victim Of Terror Attack

Rabbi Moshe Moreno, who was shot Wednesday night in the second Palestinian terrorist roadside attack in as many nights, says he is only now realizing the magnitude of the miracles that befell him. Only now that I am out of it, I can recount about ten miracles that happened to us in the space of about five minutes, with praise and thanks to G-d.”

“My wife and I were traveling back from Jerusalem to Maaleh Ephraim," Rabbi Moreno recounted. "We passed by the trempiada [where Yesha residents wait for rides] at French Hill, where we often pick people up and drop them off at Kokhav HaShachar [about two miles out of the way – ed.]. Luckily, as it turned out, there was no one there, nor at the next “stop,” at Hizme.  After the turnoff to Rimonim, a car 'settled' in back of me with his brights on; I tried to signal him in various ways to lower them, or to pass me, but he kept on playing with me, until I finally just gave up. But I didn’t suspect anything."

“Suddenly, around the curve between Rimonim and Kokhav HaShachar, he overtook me and began firing at me, from point-blank range essentially. It was an unbelievable miracle that he did not hit us, except for one bullet in my leg; my wife was not hit at all. The police told me later that there were nine bullet holes in my door, and only one hit me. What are the chances that a man standing next to you as he passes by you in a car and firing a Kalachnikov rifle in automatic will not hit you – one in a billion? One in two billion?  … An amazing miracle. But there has to be some accounting as to who gave them these guns [towards the beginning of the Oslo process].

“I veered the car towards the right, and G-d enabled me to regain control: I opened the door, got my wife and myself out of our seat belts and out of the car and we rolled ourselves down and away from the road. Another miracle is that my wife just ‘happened’ to be holding her cell phone in her hand, and also that it was a Pelephone and not Orange [cellular companies in Israel]; just 2-3 months ago we switched it, as there is no reception for Orange in that area. We found ourselves behind a big boulder, and I phoned a friend of mine in the area to call the army… I panicked for a moment and started to yell, but another miracle was that the terrorists or other Arabs were not there to hear me… This was a series of miracles that only now am I beginning to grasp.”

Palestinian Source: U.S. Pressuring Abbas To Continue Talks Even If Settlements Expand

A senior Palestinian source told Haaretz that the American administration renewed its pressure on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to stay in direct negotiations with Israel, even if some construction in the settlements resumes after the end of the current moratorium. The source warned that Abbas would not be able to agree to a renewal of construction and will be forced to withdraw from the talks.

According to the source, a Palestinian okay to the renewal of construction just as direct talks are resumed is politically impossible. Sources in Ramallah said yesterday that both the Israelis and Americans know Abbas' likely course of action. At first, Abbas will demand that the talks not last longer than a year, culminating with the establishment of a Palestinian state in the 1967 borders, and with Jerusalem as its capital.

Abbas would not be able to give up Palestinian sovereignty in East Jerusalem and especially the Temple Mount, but large Jewish neighborhoods would be retained by Israel.

Arab Papers Warn Against Talks: Abbas Is Weak

The Arab press saw eye to eye with the Western media on Friday in the bleak outlook it forecasted in its coverage of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. The day after the direct talks were officially launched in Washington, headlines in the Arab press were characterized by skepticism over the renewed peace process.

The editorial also quipped, "President Abbas is the weakest link in this process. He negotiates without being granted the authorization to do so by his people and surrenders to American and Israeli pressures. If they succeeded in bringing him to direct talks, why wouldn’t the influence him in the same manner to sign a peace agreement settled according to Israel's conditions?"

"A television spectacle with no impact," an editorial in hawkish London-based newspaper al-Quds al-Arabi deemed the talks. The paper tried to lower the Arab world’s expectations regarding the negotiation's outcome.

"The Americans think they can credit themselves with a big achievement for meeting between the two sides in front of the television cameras. They think that it broke a psychological barrier that led to the direct talks to be cut short two years ago, but the same difficulties are still alive and kicking," the article wrote.

In Iran, On "Quds Day" The Last Friday Of Ramadan ...

The late Ayatollah Rouhollah Khomeinei declared Jerusalem Day to mark the last Friday of Ramadan and called for world rallies in favor of the Palestinians and against Israel.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad  called Israel "hypocrite racists" and a Western invention as Iranians celebrated International Jerusalem Day on Friday, with rallies against the "Israeli occupation of Palestinian land by Israel" being held across the country, according to a report by Iranian news source PressTV.

"Only Palestinians can decide on their own lands, not foreign powers," PressTV quoted Ahmadinejad as saying.

On Thursday, Iranian Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri told Iranian news agency IRNA that Jerusalem day "appears to pave the way for the collapse of Israel and its allies, namely the US and Britain."

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told supporters across Iran on Friday that Israel and its allies were too weak to attack the Islamic nation's nuclear facilities.

This Peace Process Is Killing Us ... Literally

One must be stupid, senile to think deal with PA will bring something other than blood, tears. The peace process and funeral processions always went hand in hand around here.

A day before the signing of the Oslo Accords, while then-Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was already on his way to the ceremony in Washington, three IDF soldiers were murdered in a Gaza attack. Yet that was merely the prelude for the huge wave of terror attacks we experienced later on. At first, we referred to the casualties around here as “peace victims,” yet when the wave of funerals intensified, everyone shunned this Orwellian term and shifted to using more sophisticated eulogies.

Those who think that things will be different after the next agreement is signed are either stupid or senile. All the security geniuses here in Israel and abroad will not be able to produce a formula that would guarantee tranquility in the event of handing over land to the control of Mahmoud Abbas’ militias.

Such agreement will be signed in an exciting ceremony in America, but end up with Israeli cars dotted with bullet holes here.
